This week, we bring you the latest from CrimCon 2024 in the vibrant city of Nashville, Tennessee. Hosted at the stunning Gaylord Opryland Resort and convention center, CrimCon is a thrilling weekend-long affair dedicated to all thing’s true crime and mystery. The conference delves into the newest cases, cutting-edge scientific techniques, binge-worthy TV shows, gripping documentaries, and engages with top podcasters and creators from around the globe. At the event, Aleks and I immersed ourselves in various presentations, meet-and-greets, and had the chance to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in the true crime industry. We forged new connections, expanded our knowledge of the field, and even secured commitments from several authors to feature on the upcoming Season 2 of Just One More Question. Our primary aim at CrimCon was to enhance the quality of Just One More Question and bring you an even better show. Throughout our time at the conference, we took a few moments each day to update you on our experiences. We trust you'll find our insights entertaining and informative. Stay tuned! On this week’s special Memorial Day episode, we interview author Greg Janney about his book “The Magnificent Bastards: The Battle of Ramadi and a Father's Journey There." On this week’s episode we interview retired Chattanooga Police Department Homicide Inspector Tim Carroll about his investigation of the 1978 murder of William B. Tatum and the serious wounding of his girlfriend Nancy Hilton.

In the summer of 1978, Nancy Hilton, 18, and William Tatum, 20, enjoyed a movie date at the Martin Theatre in Downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Following the film, they decided to grab a bite at a nearby Pizza Hut.  After spending about 20 minutes inside, they left the restaurant and headed towards their car in the parking lot.  Tragedy struck as they approached their vehicle -a sudden shotgun blast hit Tatum, fatally injuring him.  Hilton was also wounded but managed to survive the attack.  The crime scene investigation uncovered two 12-gauge shotgun shells, but no further leads were found, and the case went cold.

Seventeen years later, a chilling phone call was received at the Chattanooga Police Homicide Division, reigniting the case.  On the other end of the line was a sinister voice, stirring up old wounds and raising new questions about the unsolved mystery.  This is Just One More Question.

On this week’s episode we catch up with Author McCracken Poston and talk with him about the success of his first novel “Zenith Man: Death, Love and Redemption in a Georgia Courtroom.”  Long-time listeners of the show will remember that Ken was our very first guest, and we wanted to touch base with him about his journey as a successful author.  Ken’s book has been nominated for this year’s CrimeCon Clue Award.  The CLUE Awards celebrate outstanding projects that embody a strong commitment to leadership, understanding, and excellence. The awards recognize exceptional titles in categories such as TV, documentary films, podcasts, and publishing. In this interview, Ken provides more insight to his writing and publishing journey, as well as insights into his personal story of redemption.

On this week’s episode, we talk to author Neal Wooten about his book, With the Devil’s Help. Neal tells the story of growing up in a poverty-stricken and abusive household while maintaining a deeply guarded family secret. His story is one of resilience, perseverance, triumph over tragedy, and murder. This is “Just One More Question.”

Author Neal Wooten has a BS in applied mathematics from Auburn University. He was on the math team in high school as well as a star of the football team. His new memoir, With the Devil's Help (Pegasus Crime/Simon and Schuster) is being made into a scripted miniseries. His sci-fi book, Pit Bulls vs. Aliens, won the Kindle Scout contest for best fiction. Reternity, his Christian sci-fi novel, won ten book awards and was named to Kirkus Reviews Best of 2011. The first book in his children's superhero series, Paleo Power Rainbow Riders, is due out June 2024.He is also the creator of “Pancho El Pit Bull”, now considered the most popular cartoon in parts of South America. Editorial Planeta, the largest publisher of Spanish books, has released four Pancho books in South America and is releasing them in Spain in 2024. Neal performed standup comedy for decades. He was on an HBO special and in a movie with Danny Trejo. Producers in Los Angeles and New York refer to him as the go-to guy for rednecks.

On this week’s episode we interview author Dr. William Rawlings about his book, Six Inches Deeper, The Disappearance of Helen Hanks. On August 31, 1972, Hellen Hanks, a pretty, thirty-four-year-old mother of three disappeared from her place of employment at Wilcox Advertising in the far-south Georgia town of Valdosta. After a brief investigation by local and state authorities, the case went cold. In the fall of 1980, a farmer clearing a field south of town discovered a buried object, a box containing the dismembered remains of the missing woman. After several months of investigation, police arrested "Foxy" Wilcox, his son Keller Wilcox, and two long-term employees of Wilcox Advertising. Keller was charged with Hanks' murder and the others with concealing a death. Keller and Foxy were members of a prominent and wealthy Valdosta family. To defend their case, they hired famed defense attorney, Bobby Lee Cook of Summerville in northwest Georgia. Keller Wilcox's murder trial in January 1982 pitted Cook against a local prosecution team led by district attorney Lamar Cole. The case against Wilcox was entirely circumstantial, making the outcome uncertain. After a trial marked by controversy and conflicting testimony, Wilcox was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, all the while proclaiming his innocence. This true story has all the elements of intrigue: money, power, sex, race, the haves vs. the have-nots, and death.  This is Just One More Question.
